What counts as aged
“Aged account” usually means a developer account registered some time ago and already verified. It is not a third account type: aged accounts are still personal or organization accounts, with or without live apps.
Aged vs new
| New personal | Aged account | |
|---|---|---|
| 12-tester closed test | Required after 13 Nov 2023 | Not for older personal or organization accounts |
| History | None | Registration and app history to check |
| Price | US$25 to register yourself | Quoted per account card |
| Handover | None | Official owner transfer, 7 days minimum |
| Review | Same review | Same review — aged does not mean exempt |
Choosing between them: new or aged account.
Three kinds
- Aged personal: registered before 13 Nov 2023, no closed test. Owner transfer is only open to personal accounts that do not monetize.
- Organization: registered to a company with D-U-N-S; Google Play shows the organization. Finance, health, VPN and government apps require one.
- With apps: live apps already on the account. Agree whether signing keys are included so you can keep updating them.
Official transfer vs. a shared password
| Official transfer | Sending a password | |
|---|---|---|
| How it moves | Seller starts the ownership transfer in Play Console | Seller sends a Google login, password and recovery email |
| Whose Google Account | Your own | Still the seller's |
| Recovery risk | No seller login to recover | Seller can file recovery with the old device or phone |
| Waiting period | 7 days; any member can cancel | None, but risk lasts until every detail changes |
| Google policy | Required since 27 May 2026 | An unofficial transfer the policy prohibits |
Steps
- The seller invites your Google Account in Users and permissions. An account that already owns a Play Console account cannot become owner.
- The seller selects Make account owner and submits; the 7-day hold starts.
- After 7 days you get an email, pick a payments profile for identity verification and confirm email and phone.
- Then remove old members and turn on 2-step verification.

Choosing and verifying an aged account
- Start from the goal: skip the closed test, get an organization identity, or keep running a live app. See how to choose.
- Registration date, app history and policy status come from live Play Console pages, not screenshots. See spotting a fake aged account.
- If a seller refuses the official transfer and only offers a password, stop. Why: can you buy a developer account.
What it costs
Price depends on registration year, personal or organization, country, live apps and downloads, signing keys and policy history, and is quoted per card. See what it costs.
Questions
What is an aged Google Play account?
An older, verified Play Console account, possibly with live apps. Personal accounts from before 13 November 2023 and organization accounts skip the 12-tester, 14-day closed test.
Can the seller take it back?
After the official owner transfer the account no longer depends on the seller's login; still remove old members and turn on 2-step verification. Password-only deals carry the most risk.
Can I keep updating the existing app?
You need the upload key. For apps on Play App Signing a lost upload key can be reset; the card states whether keys are included.
Does an aged account guarantee approval?
No. Aged accounts follow the same Google Play policy, and Google decides review and verification.
How long does the handover take?
The official owner transfer has a 7-day hold; with checks and your verification it is usually just over a week.
